IDENTIFYING ALIENS CONNECTED TO THE ARMED 1 FORCES. 2 (a) IN GENERAL.—Upon the application by an alien 3 for an immigration benefit or the placement of an alien 4 in an immigration enforcement proceeding, the Secretary 5 of Homeland Security shall— 6 (1) determine whether the alien is serving, or 7 has served, as a member of— 8 (A) a regular or reserve component of the 9 Armed Forces of the United States on active 10 duty; or 11 (B) a reserve component of the Armed 12 Forces in an active status; and 13 (2) with respect to the immigration and natu- 14 ralization records of the Department of Homeland 15 Security relating to an alien who is serving, or has 16 served, as a member of the Armed Forces described 17 in paragraph (1), annotate such records— 18 (A) to reflect that membership; and 19 (B) to afford an opportunity to track the 20 outcomes for each such alien. 21 (b) PROHIBITION ON USE OF INFORMATION FOR RE- 22 MOVAL.—Information gathered under subsection (a) may 23 not be used for the purpose of removing an alien from 24 the United States. 25 Æ VerDate Sep 11 2014 17:11 Jul 08, 2021 Jkt 019200 PO 00000 Frm 00002 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6301 E:\BILLS\S2268.IS S2268 khammond on DSKJM1Z7X2PROD with BILLS
