SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Protecting Indian
2
Tribes from Scams Act’’.
3
SEC. 2. PROTECTING INDIAN TRIBES FROM UNFAIR OR DE-
4
CEPTIVE ACTS OR PRACTICES.

(a) FTC REPORT ON UNFAIR OR DECEPTIVE ACTS
6
OR PRACTICES TARGETING INDIAN TRIBES.—Not later
7
than 1 year after the date of the enactment of this Act,
8
and after consultation with Indian Tribes, the Commission
9
shall make publicly available on the website of the Com-
10
mission and submit to the appropriate committees of Con-
11
gress a report on unfair or deceptive acts or practices tar-
12
geted at Indian Tribes or members of Indian Tribes, in-
13
cluding—
14
(1) a description of the types of unfair or de-
15
ceptive acts or practices identified by the Commis-
16
sion as being targeted at Indian Tribes or members
17
of Indian Tribes;
18
(2) a description of the consumer education ac-
19
tivities of the Commission with respect to such acts
20
or practices;
21
(3) a description of the efforts of the Commis-
22
sion to collaborate with Indian Tribes to prevent
23
such acts or practices or to pursue persons using
24
such acts or practices;

(4) a summary of the enforcement actions

taken by the Commission related to such acts or
2
practices; and
3
(5) any recommendations for legislation to pre-
4
vent such acts or practices.

(b) INCREASING AWARENESS OF UNFAIR OR DECEP-
6
TIVE ACTS OR PRACTICES TARGETING INDIAN TRIBES.—
7
Not later than 6 months after the date of the submission
8
of the report required by subsection (a), the Commission
9
shall update the website of the Commission to include in-
10
formation for consumers and businesses on identifying
11
and avoiding unfair or deceptive acts or practices targeted
12
at Indian Tribes or members of Indian Tribes.
13
(c) DEFINITIONS.—In this section:
14
(1)
APPROPRIATE
COMMITTEES
OF
CON-
15
GRESS.—The term ‘‘appropriate committees of Con-
16
gress’’ means—
17
(A) the Committee on Commerce, Science,
18
and Transportation of the Senate;
19
(B) the Committee on Indian Affairs of the
20
Senate;
21
(C) the Committee on Energy and Com-
22
merce of the House of Representatives; and
23
(D) the Committee on Natural Resources
24
of the House of Representatives.

COMMISSION.—The
term
‘‘Commission’’

means the Federal Trade Commission.

(3) INDIAN TRIBE.—The term ‘‘Indian Tribe’’

has the meaning given that term in section 102 of
4
the Federally Recognized Indian Tribe List Act of
5
1994 (25 U.S.C. 5130).
