A BILL
To amend title 10, United States Code, to extend certain
morale, welfare, and recreation privileges to recipients
of the gold star lapel button.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Gold Star Families
4
Benefits Protection Act’’.

SEC. 2. EXTENSION OF CERTAIN MORALE, WELFARE, AND

RECREATION PRIVILEGES TO CERTAIN RE-

CIPIENTS OF THE GOLD STAR LAPEL BUTTON

OR NEXT OF KIN DECEASED PERSONNEL

LAPEL BUTTON.

(a) IN GENERAL.—Chapter 54 of title 10, United
6
States Code, is amended by adding at the end the fol-
7
lowing new section:

‘‘§ 1067. Use of commissary stores and MWR facilities:
9
certain recipients of the gold star lapel
10
button or next of kin deceased personnel
11
lapel button
12
‘‘(a) ELIGIBILITY.—A covered individual shall be per-
13
mitted to use commissary stores and MWR retail facilities
14
on the same basis as a member of the armed forces on
15
active duty.
16
‘‘(b) DEFINITIONS.—In this section:
17
‘‘(1) The term ‘covered individual’ means an
18
adult individual who—
19
‘‘(A) is the surviving child of a member;
20
and
21
‘‘(B) who has received a gold star lapel
22
button under section 1126 of this title or a next
23
of kin deceased personnel lapel button.

‘‘(2) The term ‘MWR retail facilities’ has the

meaning given that term in section 1063 of this
2
title.’’.

(b) CLERICAL AMENDMENT.—The table of sections
4
at the beginning of chapter 54 of title 10, United States
5
Code, is amended by adding at the end the following new
6
item:

‘‘1067. Use of commissary stores and MWR facilities: certain recipients of the
gold star lapel button or next of kin deceased personnel lapel
button.’’.
