A BILL
To amend the Richard B. Russell National School Lunch
Act to allow certain institutions to use geographic pref-
erence for procurement of certain foods, and for other
purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
3
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Kids Eat Local Act’’.

Paragraph (3) of section 9(j) of the Richard B. Rus-

sell National School Lunch Act (42 U.S.C. 1758(j)) is

amended to read as follows:

‘‘(3) allow institutions receiving funds under
6
this Act and the Child Nutrition Act of 1966 (42
7
U.S.C. 1771 et seq.), including the Department of
8
Defense Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program—
9
‘‘(A) to use a geographic preference for the
10
procurement of unprocessed agricultural prod-
11
ucts, both locally grown and locally raised; or
12
‘‘(B) to use locally grown, locally raised, or
13
locally caught as a product specification.’’.
