RESCISSION OF STATE AND LOCAL IMMIGRATION 3 ENFORCEMENT AUTHORITY. 4 Section 287(g) of the Immigration and Nationality 5 Act (8 U.S.C. 1357(g)) is amended to read as follows: 6 ‘‘(g) Except as provided in sections 103(a)(10) and 7 274(c) of this Act and in section 439 of the Antiterrorism 8 and Effective Death Penalty Act of 1996 (8 U.S.C. 9 1252c), the authority to inquire about or verify immigra- 10 tion or citizenship status and to investigate, apprehend, 11 arrest, or detain an individual for a violation of this Act 12 or any regulation authorized by this Act— 13 ‘‘(1) is restricted to immigration officers and 14 authorized employees of the Department of Home- 15 land Security; and 16 ‘‘(2) is subject to limits set forth in other provi- 17 sions of law.’’. 18 Æ VerDate Sep 11 2014 23:02 May 26, 2021 Jkt 019200 PO 00000 Frm 00002 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6301 E:\BILLS\S1336.IS S1336 kjohnson on DSK79L0C42PROD with BILLS
