Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- 1 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2 SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 3 This Act may be cited as the ‘‘2020 Census Deadline 4 Extensions Act’’. 5 SEC. 2. CENSUS DEADLINE MODIFICATION. 6 (a) DEFINITIONS.—In this section— 7 (1) the term ‘‘President’’ means the President 8 of the United States; and 9 (2) the term ‘‘Secretary’’ means the Secretary 10 of Commerce. 11 VerDate Sep 11 2014 23:25 May 14, 2021 Jkt 019200 PO 00000 Frm 00001 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6201 E:\BILLS\S1267.IS S1267 pamtmann on DSKBC07HB2PROD with BILLS 2 •S 1267 IS (b) MODIFIED TIMETABLES AND RULES.—Notwith- 1 standing subsections (b) and (c) of section 141 of title 2 13, United States Code, and subsection (a) of section 22 3 of the Act entitled ‘‘An Act to provide for the fifteenth 4 and subsequent decennial censuses and to provide for ap- 5 portionment of Representatives in Congress’’, approved 6 June 18, 1929 (2 U.S.C. 2a), the following timetables and 7 rules shall apply to the 2020 decennial census of popu- 8 lation: 9 (1) Not later than May 1, 2021, the Secretary 10 shall— 11 (A) complete the tabulation of total popu- 12 lation by States required under subsection (a) 13 of such section 141; 14 (B) report the tabulation described in sub- 15 paragraph (A) to the President; and 16 (C) make the tabulation described in sub- 17 paragraph (A) public. 18 (2) Not later than 14 days after receipt of the 19 tabulation described in paragraph (1)(A), the Presi- 20 dent shall transmit to Congress the statement de- 21 scribed in subsection (a) of such section 22. 22 (3) Each State shall be entitled, in the 118th 23 Congress and in each Congress thereafter until the 24 taking effect of a reapportionment under such sec- 25 VerDate Sep 11 2014 23:25 May 14, 2021 Jkt 019200 PO 00000 Frm 00002 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6201 E:\BILLS\S1267.IS S1267 pamtmann on DSKBC07HB2PROD with BILLS 3 •S 1267 IS tion 22 or a subsequently enacted statute, to the 1 number of Representatives shown in the statement 2 described in paragraph (2), and no State shall re- 3 ceive less than 1 Member. 4 (4) Not later than 15 days after receipt of the 5 statement described in paragraph (2), the Clerk of 6 the House of Representatives shall send to the exec- 7 utive of each State a certificate of the number of 8 Representatives to which the State is entitled under 9 paragraph (3).
