Mr. JACKSON (for himself and Mr. GOLDEN) introduced the following bill;
which was referred to the Committee on Armed Services
A BILL
To provide for the continuation of paid parental leave for
a member of the Armed Forces in the event of the
death of the child.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Elaine M. Checketts
4
Military Families Act’’.

SEC. 2. CONTINUATION OF PAID PARENTAL LEAVE FOR A
6
MEMBER OF THE ARMED FORCES UPON
7
DEATH OF CHILD.

Not later than 180 days after the date of the enact-
9
ment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense shall amend

the regulations prescribed pursuant to subsections (i) and
1
(j) of section 701 of title 10, United States Code, to en-
2
sure that paid parental leave that has already been ap-
3
proved for a member of the Armed Forces who is a pri-
4
mary or secondary caregiver (as defined under such regu-
5
lations) may not be terminated upon the death of the child
6
for whom such leave is taken.
