Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- 1 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2 SECTION 1. REASSIGNMENT OF MEMBERS OF THE NATIONAL 1 GUARD DEPLOYED TO THE NATIONAL CAP- 2 ITAL REGION. 3 (a) IN GENERAL.—Not later than 14 days after the 4 date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of Defense 5 shall reassign 95 percent of covered members to support 6 U.S. Customs and Border Protection in— 7 (1) securing the southern land border of the 8 United States; and 9 (2) management and care for migrants at such 10 border. 11 (b) STUDY; REPORT.—Not later than 90 days after 12 the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of 13 Defense shall submit to Congress a report containing the 14 results of a study assessing the effects of the reassignment 15 under subsection (a). 16 (c) DEFINITIONS.—In this section: 17 (1) The term ‘‘covered duty’’ means duty per- 18 formed— 19 (A) in the National Capital Region; and 20 (B) in support of the mission in response 21 to the attacks on January 6, 2021, on the Cap- 22 itol Buildings and the United States Capitol 23 Grounds (described in sections 5101 and 5102 24 of title 40, United States Code). 25 VerDate Sep 11 2014 04:59 May 12, 2021 Jkt 019200 PO 00000 Frm 00002 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6201 E:\BILLS\H1935.IH H1935 kjohnson on DSK79L0C42PROD with BILLS 3 •HR 1935 IH (2) The term ‘‘covered member’’ means a mem- 1 ber of the National Guard deployed to the National 2 Capital Region— 3 (A) on or after January 6, 2021; and 4 (B) to perform covered duty. 5 (3) The term ‘‘National Capital Region’’ has 6 the meaning given that term in section 2674 of title 7 10, United States Code. 8 Æ VerDate Sep 11 2014 04:59 May 12, 2021 Jkt 019200 PO 00000 Frm 00003 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6301 E:\BILLS\H1935.IH H1935 kjohnson on DSK79L0C42PROD with BILLS
