SHORT TITLE. 1 This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Protecting Indian 2 Tribes from Scams Act’’. 3 SEC. 2. PROTECTING INDIAN TRIBES FROM UNFAIR OR DE- 4 CEPTIVE ACTS OR PRACTICES. 5 (a) FTC REPORT ON UNFAIR OR DECEPTIVE ACTS 6 OR PRACTICES TARGETING INDIAN TRIBES.—Not later 7 than 1 year after the date of the enactment of this Act, 8 and after consultation with Indian Tribes, the Commission 9 shall make publicly available on the website of the Com- 10 mission and submit to the Committee on Energy and Com- 11 merce of the House of Representatives and the Committee 12 on Commerce, Science, and Transportation of the Senate 13 a report on unfair or deceptive acts or practices targeted 14 at Indian Tribes or members of Indian Tribes, including— 15 (1) a description of the types of unfair or de- 16 ceptive acts or practices identified by the Commis- 17 sion as being targeted at Indian Tribes or members 18 of Indian Tribes; 19 (2) a description of the consumer education ac- 20 tivities of the Commission with respect to such acts 21 or practices; 22 (3) a description of the efforts of the Commis- 23 sion to collaborate with Indian Tribes to prevent 24 such acts or practices or to pursue persons using 25 such acts or practices; 26 VerDate Sep 11 2014 00:14 Apr 20, 2021 Jkt 019200 PO 00000 Frm 00002 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6201 E:\BILLS\H1762.RFS H1762 pamtmann on DSKBC07HB2PROD with BILLS 3 HR 1762 RFS (4) a summary of the enforcement actions 1 taken by the Commission related to such acts or 2 practices; and 3 (5) any recommendations for legislation to pre- 4 vent such acts or practices. 5 (b) INCREASING AWARENESS OF UNFAIR OR DECEP- 6 TIVE ACTS OR PRACTICES TARGETING INDIAN TRIBES.— 7 Not later than 6 months after the date of the submission 8 of the report required by subsection (a), the Commission 9 shall update the website of the Commission to include in- 10 formation for consumers and businesses on identifying 11 and avoiding unfair or deceptive acts or practices targeted 12 at Indian Tribes or members of Indian Tribes. 13 (c) COMMISSION DEFINED.—In this section, the term 14 ‘‘Commission’’ means the Federal Trade Commission. 15 Passed the House of Representatives April 15, 2021.
