To amend the National Agricultural Research, Extension, and Teaching Policy
Act of 1977 to provide for an additional goal of the Agriculture Advanced
Research and Development Authority (AGARDA) to enhance the role
of agriculture in innovative sustainability solutions.

following bill; which was referred to the Committee on Agriculture
A BILL
To amend the National Agricultural Research, Extension,
and Teaching Policy Act of 1977 to provide for an addi-
tional goal of the Agriculture Advanced Research and
Development Authority (AGARDA) to enhance the role
of agriculture in innovative sustainability solutions.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Sustainable Agri-
4
culture Research Act’’.

SEC. 2. ADDITIONAL GOAL OF AGARDA TO ENHANCE ROLE

OF AGRICULTURE IN INNOVATIVE SUSTAIN-
2
ABILITY SOLUTIONS.

Section 1473H(b)(2) of the National Agricultural Re-
4
search, Extension, and Teaching Policy Act of 1977 (7
5
U.S.C. 3319k(b)(2)) is amended—
6
(1) in subparagraph (C), by striking ‘‘and’’ at
7
the end;
8
(2) by redesignating subparagraph (D) as sub-
9
paragraph (E); and
10
(3) by inserting after subparagraph (C) the fol-
11
lowing:

‘‘(D) to enhance the role of agriculture in
13
innovative voluntary resilience solutions in the
14
United States through the development of agri-
15
cultural technologies that address—
16
‘‘(i) the impact of extreme weather on
17
crop production;
18
‘‘(ii) the expansion of the potential for
19
long-term carbon storage through agri-
20
culture;
21
‘‘(iii) increased economic and practical
22
feasibility for renewable and sustainable
23
energy on farms and in the agriculture in-
24
dustry; and
