Ms. ESHOO introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee
on Oversight and Reform
A BILL
To amend title 5, United States Code, to modify the oath
of office taken by individuals in the civil service or uni-
formed services, and of other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. MODIFICATION OF OATH OF OFFICE FOR INDI-
3
VIDUALS IN THE CIVIL SERVICE OR UNI-
4
FORMED SERVICES.

Section 3331 of title 5, United States Code, is
6
amended to read as follows:

‘‘§ 3331. Oath of office
8
‘‘An individual, except the President, elected or ap-
9
pointed to an office of honor or profit in the civil service

or uniformed services, shall take the following oath: ‘I,
1
AB, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and
2
defend the Constitution of the United States against all
3
enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith
4
and allegiance to the same; that I place this obligation
5
above that to any individual, political party, or faction;
6
that I take this obligation freely, without any mental res-
7
ervation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and
8
faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am
9
about to enter. So help me God.’ This section does not
10
affect other oaths required by law.’’.
