Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- 1 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2 SECTION 1. EXTENSION OF THE SUPPLEMENTAL SECURITY IN- 1 COME PROGRAM TO GUAM. 2 (a) IN GENERAL.—Section 303(b) of the Social Secu- 3 rity Amendments of 1972 (86 Stat. 1484) is amended by 4 striking ‘‘, Guam,’’. 5 (b) CONFORMING AMENDMENTS.— 6 (1) DEFINITION OF STATE.—Section 7 1101(a)(1) of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 8 1301(a)(1)) is amended in the 5th sentence by strik- 9 ing ‘‘, the Virgin Islands, and Guam’’ each place it 10 appears and inserting ‘‘and the Virgin Islands’’. 11 (2) GUAM INCLUDED IN GEOGRAPHIC MEANING 12 OF UNITED STATES.—Section 1614(e) of such Act 13 (42 U.S.C. 1382c(e)) is amended by striking ‘‘and 14 the District of Columbia’’ and inserting ‘‘, the Dis- 15 trict of Columbia, and Guam’’. 16 (c) WAIVER AUTHORITY.—The Commissioner of So- 17 cial Security may waive or modify any statutory require- 18 ment relating to the provision of benefits under the Sup- 19 plemental Security Income Program under title XVI of the 20 Social Security Act in Guam, to the extent that the Com- 21 missioner deems it necessary in order to adapt the pro- 22 gram to the needs of Guam. 23 (d) EFFECTIVE DATE.—This section and the amend- 24 ments made by this section shall take effect on the 1st 25 VerDate Sep 11 2014 23:51 Jan 28, 2021 Jkt 019200 PO 00000 Frm 00002 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6201 E:\BILLS\H157.IH H157 pamtmann on DSKBC07HB2PROD with BILLS 3 •HR 157 IH day of the 1st Federal fiscal year that begins 1 year or 1 more after the date of the enactment of this Act. 2 Æ VerDate Sep 11 2014 23:51 Jan 28, 2021 Jkt 019200 PO 00000 Frm 00003 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6301 E:\BILLS\H157.IH H157 pamtmann on DSKBC07HB2PROD with BILLS
