A BILL
To direct the Attorney General to include a data field in
the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System
to indicate whether the last known location of a missing
person was confirmed or was suspected to have been
on Federal land, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Tracking and Report-
4
ing Absent Community-members Everywhere Act’’ or the
5
‘‘TRACE Act’’.

SEC. 2. DATA FIELD IN THE NATIONAL MISSING AND UN-

IDENTIFIED PERSONS SYSTEM RELATED TO
2
FEDERAL LAND.

The Attorney General, acting through the Director
4
of the National Institute of Justice, shall include in the
5
National Missing and Unidentified Persons System a data
6
field to indicate whether the last known location of the
7
missing person was confirmed or was suspected to have
8
been on Federal land, including any specific location de-
9
tails about the unit of Federal land that was the last
10
known location of the missing person.

SEC. 3. REPORT.

Beginning in the second calendar year that begins
13
after the date of enactment of this Act, and annually
14
thereafter, on January 15th, the Attorney General, acting
15
through the Director of the National Institute of Justice,
16
shall submit to the Committees on the Judiciary of the
17
House of Representatives and of the Senate a report that
18
contains, for the previous calendar year, the number of
19
cases in the National Missing and Unidentified Persons
20
System for which the missing person’s last known location
21
was confirmed or was suspected to have been on Federal
22
land.

SEC. 4. DEFINITION.

In this Act, the term ‘‘Federal land’’ means land
25
owned by the United States that is under the administra-

benefit of an Indian Tribe), or the Secretary of Defense

only with respect to land and water resources projects ad-
