Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- 1 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2 SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 3 This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Extending WIC for 4 New Moms Act’’. 5 SEC. 2. EXTENDING WIC ELIGIBILITY FOR NEW MOMS. 6 (a) EXTENSION OF POSTPARTUM PERIOD.—Section 7 17(b)(10) of the Child Nutrition Act of 1966 (42 U.S.C. 8 1786(b)(10)) is amended by striking ‘‘six months’’ and in- 9 serting ‘‘24 months’’. 10 (b) EXTENSION OF BREASTFEEDING PERIOD.—Sec- 11 tion 17(d)(3)(A)(ii) of the Child Nutrition Act of 1966 12 (42 U.S.C. 1786(d)(3)(A)(ii)) is amended by striking ‘‘1 13 year’’ and inserting ‘‘24 months’’. 14 (c) REPORT.—Not later than 2 years after the date 15 of the enactment of this section, the Secretary of Agri- 16 culture shall submit to Congress a report that includes an 17 evaluation of the effect of each of the amendments made 18 by this section on— 19 VerDate Sep 11 2014 00:55 May 30, 2023 Jkt 039200 PO 00000 Frm 00002 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6201 E:\BILLS\H3332.IH H3332 kjohnson on DSK79L0C42PROD with BILLS 3 •HR 3332 IH (1) maternal and infant health outcomes, in- 1 cluding racial and ethnic disparities with respect to 2 such outcomes; 3 (2) breastfeeding rates among postpartum indi- 4 viduals; 5 (3) qualitative evaluations of family experiences 6 under the special supplemental nutrition program 7 under section 17 of the Child Nutrition Act of 1966 8 (42 U.S.C. 1786); and 9 (4) other relevant information as determined by 10 the Secretary. 11 (d) POSTPARTUM DEFINED.—The term 12 ‘‘postpartum’’ refers to the 1-year period beginning on the 13 last day of the pregnancy of an individual. 14 Æ VerDate Sep 11 2014 00:55 May 30, 2023 Jkt 039200 PO 00000 Frm 00003 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6301 E:\BILLS\H3332.IH H3332 kjohnson on DSK79L0C42PROD with BILLS
