To direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services, acting through
the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Women’s Health, to create edu-
cational materials with respect to covered disorders for elementary and
secondary school students, and for other purposes.

Ms. WILLIAMS of Georgia (for herself, Ms. LOIS FRANKEL of Florida, Mr.
CLEAVER, Ms. VELA´ZQUEZ, and Ms. BARRAGA´N) introduced the following
bill; which was referred to the Committee on Education and the Work-
force, and in addition to the Committee on Energy and Commerce, for
a period to be subsequently determined by the Speaker, in each case for
consideration of such provisions as fall within the jurisdiction of the com-
mittee concerned
A BILL
To direct the Secretary of Health and Human Services,
acting through the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Wom-
en’s Health, to create educational materials with respect
to covered disorders for elementary and secondary school
students, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
3
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Know Your Body Act’’.

SEC. 2. EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS.

(a) IN GENERAL.—Not later than one year after the
2
date of enactment of this Act, and at least every five years
3
thereafter, the Secretary of Health and Human Services,
4
acting through the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Wom-
5
en’s Health, shall—
6
(1) create or update evidence-based, medically
7
accurate educational materials with respect to cov-
8
ered disorders, including—
9
(A) the timing, signs, and symptoms of
10
each covered disorder;
11
(B) the impacts of covered disorders on the
12
physical, emotional, social, and academic life of
13
an individual;
14
(C) statistics on covered disorders;
15
(D) evidence-based, medically accurate best
16
practices on how an individual with a covered
17
disorder can be a health care advocate for such
18
individual; and
19
(E) evidence-based, medically accurate
20
treatment options for covered disorders, includ-
21
ing evidence-based, medically accurate rec-
22
ommendations for follow-up care from a health
23
care provider;
24
(2) in consultation with the Secretary of Edu-
25
cation, make such materials—

•HR 2456 IH
(A) widely accessible and publicly available

to students of elementary schools and secondary
2
schools; and
3
(B) informative and understandable to
4
such students; and
5
(3) provide guidance to elementary schools and
6
secondary schools on how the materials may be used,
7
including—
8
(A) integrating the materials into a cur-
9
riculum; and
10
(B) distributing the materials to students.

(b) DEFINITIONS.—In this section:
12
(1) COVERED DISORDERS.—The term ‘‘covered
13
disorders’’ means uterine, ovarian, and related hor-
14
monal and menstrual disorders, such as endo-
15
metriosis, uterine fibroids, and polycystic ovary syn-
16
drome.
17
(2) ESEA TERMS.—The terms ‘‘elementary
18
school’’ and ‘‘secondary school’’ have the meanings
19
given such terms in section 8101 of the Elementary
20
and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C.
21
7801).
