lowing bill; which was referred to the Committee on Energy and Com-

A BILL
To require the submission of a report to the Congress on
parasitic disease among poor Americans.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Neglected Infections
4
of Impoverished Americans Act of 2020’’.

SEC. 2. REPORT TO CONGRESS ON THE CURRENT STATE OF

PARASITIC
DISEASES
THAT
HAVE
BEEN
2
OVERLOOKED AMONG THE POOREST AMERI-
3
CANS.

(a) IN GENERAL.—Not later than 12 months after
5
the date of the enactment of this Act, the Secretary of
6
Health and Human Services shall report to the Congress
7
on the epidemiology of, impact of, and appropriate funding
8
required to address neglected diseases of poverty, includ-
9
ing neglected parasitic diseases such as—
10
(1) Chagas disease;
11
(2) cysticercosis;
12
(3) toxocariasis;
13
(4) toxoplasmosis;
14
(5) trichomoniasis;
15
(6) the soil-transmitted helminths; and
16
(7) other related parasitic diseases, as des-
17
ignated by the Secretary.

(b) REQUIRED INFORMATION.—The report under
19
subsection (a) should provide the information necessary to
20
guide future health policy to—
21
(1) accurately evaluate the current state of
22
knowledge concerning diseases described in such
23
subsection and define gaps in such knowledge; and
24
(2) address the threat of such diseases.
