REDESIGNATION OF OFFICE OF MAYOR OF DIS- 1 TRICT OF COLUMBIA AS OFFICE OF GOV- 2 ERNOR OF DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA. 3 (a) REDESIGNATION.—Section 421(a) of the District 4 of Columbia Home Rule Act (sec. 1–204.21(a), D.C. Offi- 5 cial Code) is amended to read as follows: 6 ‘‘(a) There is established the Office of the Governor 7 of the District of Columbia, and the Governor shall be 8 elected by the registered qualified electors of the Dis- 9 trict.’’. 10 (b) TREATMENT OF CURRENT MAYOR.—For pur- 11 poses of section 421(a) of the District of Columbia Home 12 Rule Act, as amended by subsection (a), the individual 13 holding the office of Mayor of the District of Columbia 14 as of the date of the enactment of this Act shall be deemed 15 to have been elected to the office of Governor of the Dis- 16 trict of Columbia by the registered qualified electors of 17 the District. 18 (c) REFERENCES IN LAW.—Any reference to the Of- 19 fice of the Mayor of the District of Columbia in any law, 20 rule, or regulation of the United States or the District 21 of Columbia shall be deemed to refer to the Office of the 22 Governor of the District of Columbia, and any reference 23 to the Mayor of the District of Columbia in any law, rule, 24 or regulation of the United States or the District of Co- 25 VerDate Sep 11 2014 23:43 Jun 30, 2020 Jkt 099200 PO 00000 Frm 00002 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6201 E:\BILLS\H7165.IH H7165 pamtmann on DSKBC07HB2PROD with BILLS 3 •HR 7165 IH lumbia shall be deemed to refer to the Governor of the 1 District of Columbia. 2 SEC. 3. REDESIGNATION OF COUNCIL OF DISTRICT OF CO- 3 LUMBIA AS LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF DIS- 4 TRICT OF COLUMBIA. 5 (a) REDESIGNATION.—Section 401(a) of the District 6 of Columbia Home Rule Act (sec. 1–204.01(a), D.C. Offi- 7 cial Code) is amended to read as follows: 8 ‘‘(a) There is established a Legislative Assembly of 9 the District of Columbia, consisting of Representatives 10 who shall be elected by the registered qualified electors 11 of the District.’’. 12 (b) TREATMENT OF CURRENT MEMBERS.—For pur- 13 poses of section 401(a) of the District of Columbia Home 14 Rule Act, as amended by subsection (a), any individual 15 holding the office of Member of the Council of the District 16 of Columbia as of the date of the enactment of this Act 17 shall be deemed to have been elected to the office of Rep- 18 resentative of the Legislative Assembly of the District of 19 Columbia by the registered qualified electors of the Dis- 20 trict. 21 (c) REFERENCES IN LAW.—Any reference to the 22 Council of the District of Columbia in any law, rule, or 23 regulation of the United States or the District of Columbia 24 shall be deemed to refer to the Legislative Assembly of 25 VerDate Sep 11 2014 23:43 Jun 30, 2020 Jkt 099200 PO 00000 Frm 00003 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6201 E:\BILLS\H7165.IH H7165 pamtmann on DSKBC07HB2PROD with BILLS 4 •HR 7165 IH the District of Columbia, and any reference to a Member 1 of the Council of the District of Columbia in any law, rule, 2 or regulation of the United States or the District of Co- 3 lumbia shall be deemed to refer to a Representative of the 4 Legislative Assembly of the District of Columbia. 5 SEC. 4. REDESIGNATION OF CHAIR OF COUNCIL OF DIS- 6 TRICT OF COLUMBIA AS SPEAKER OF LEGIS- 7 LATIVE ASSEMBLY OF DISTRICT OF COLUM- 8 BIA. 9 (a) REDESIGNATION.—Section 411(a) of the District 10 of Columbia Home Rule Act (sec. 1–204.11(a) D.C.
