Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- 1 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2 SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 3 This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Limitations on the In- 4 surrection act including Mechanisms for Invoking its Ter- 5 mination Act’’ or the ‘‘LIMIT Act’’. 6 SEC. 2. Requirements for use of authority 4 ‘‘The authority under section 251, 252, or 253 of this 5 title— 6 ‘‘(1) may only be exercised after the President 7 declares a national emergency under the National 8 Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1601 et seq.) applicable 9 to the situation for which the authority is exercised; 10 and 11 ‘‘(2) may not be exercised if the national emer- 12 gency has been terminated.’’. 13 (2) CLERICAL AMENDMENT.—The table of sec- 14 tions at the beginning of such chapter is amended 15 by inserting after the item relating to section 255 16 the following new item: 17 ‘‘256. Requirements for use of authority.’’.
