REQUIREMENT TO VERIFY THAT A HEALTH CARE 1 PROVIDER IS LICENSED IN GOOD STANDING 2 BEFORE ISSUING A UNIQUE HEALTH IDENTI- 3 FIER. 4 Section 1173(b) of the Social Security Act (42 U.S.C. 5 1320d–2(b)) is amended by adding at the end the fol- 6 lowing new paragraph: 7 ‘‘(3) VERIFICATION OF LICENSE IN GOOD 8 STANDING.—Not later than 30 days after the date 9 of enactment of this paragraph, the Secretary shall 10 establish and implement an automated system that 11 enables the Secretary to verify whether a person de- 12 scribed in section 1172(a)(3) who is an applicant for 13 a unique health identifier and who claims in the ap- 14 plication to be licensed in a State is actually licensed 15 in that State and that such license is in good stand- 16 ing.
