Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- 1 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2 SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 3 This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Shawnee Wilderness 4 Designation Act’’. 5 SEC. 2. SHAWNEE WILDERNESS, ILLINOIS. 6 (a) DESIGNATION.—In accordance with the Wilder- 7 ness Act (16 U.S.C. 1131 et seq.), there is designated as 8 wilderness and as a component of the National Wilderness 9 VerDate Sep 11 2014 00:09 Dec 28, 2019 Jkt 099200 PO 00000 Frm 00001 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6201 E:\BILLS\H5474.IH H5474 kjohnson on DSK79L0C42 with BILLS 2 •HR 5474 IH Preservation System, to be known as the ‘‘Shawnee Wil- 1 derness’’ (referred to in this Act as the ‘‘Wilderness’’), the 2 approximately 289,000 acres of Forest Service land com- 3 prising the Shawnee National Forest in the State of Illi- 4 nois. 5 (b) MAP; LEGAL DESCRIPTION.— 6 (1) IN GENERAL.—As soon as practicable after 7 the date of enactment of this Act, the Secretary of 8 Agriculture (referred to in this Act as the ‘‘Sec- 9 retary’’) shall prepare a map and legal description of 10 the Wilderness. 11 (2) FORCE OF LAW.—The map and legal de- 12 scription prepared under paragraph (1) shall have 13 the same force and effect as if included in this Act, 14 except that the Secretary may correct clerical and 15 typographical errors in the map and legal descrip- 16 tion. 17 (3) AVAILABILITY.—The map and legal descrip- 18 tion prepared under paragraph (1) shall be on file 19 and available for public inspection in the appropriate 20 offices of the Forest Service. 21 (c) ADMINISTRATION.—Subject to valid existing 22 rights, the Wilderness shall be administered by the Sec- 23 retary in accordance with the Wilderness Act (16 U.S.C. 24 1131 et seq.) except that with respect to the Wilderness, 25 VerDate Sep 11 2014 00:09 Dec 28, 2019 Jkt 099200 PO 00000 Frm 00002 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6201 E:\BILLS\H5474.IH H5474 kjohnson on DSK79L0C42 with BILLS 3 •HR 5474 IH any reference in that Act to the effective date shall be 1 considered to be a reference to the date of enactment of 2 this Act. 3 Æ VerDate Sep 11 2014 00:09 Dec 28, 2019 Jkt 099200 PO 00000 Frm 00003 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6301 E:\BILLS\H5474.IH H5474 kjohnson on DSK79L0C42 with BILLS
