SHORT TITLE. 1 This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Justice for Juveniles 2 Act’’. 3 SEC. 2. EXEMPTION OF JUVENILES FROM THE REQUIRE- 4 MENTS FOR SUITS BY PRISONERS. 5 Section 7 of the Civil Rights of Institutionalized Per- 6 sons Act (42 U.S.C. 1997e) is amended— 7 (1) in subsection (h), by striking ‘‘sentenced 8 for, or adjudicated delinquent for,’’ and inserting 9 ‘‘or sentenced for’’; and 10 (2) by adding at the end the following: 11 ‘‘(i) EXEMPTION OF JUVENILE PRISONERS.—This 12 section shall not apply to an action pending on the date 13 of enactment of the Justice for Juveniles Act or filed on 14 or after such date if such action is— 15 ‘‘(1) brought by a prisoner who has not at- 16 tained 22 years of age; or 17 ‘‘(2) brought by any prisoner with respect to a 18 prison condition that occurred before the prisoner 19 attained 22 years of age.’’. 20 Passed the House of Representatives September 21, 2020.
