A BILL
To amend the Immigration and Nationality Act to limit
the grounds of deportability for certain relatives of mem-
bers of the Armed Forces and veterans, and for other
purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Protecting Immigrant
4
Gold Star and Military Families Act’’.

SEC. 2. LIMITING GROUNDS OF DEPORTABILITY FOR REL-

ATIVES
OF
MEMBERS
OF
THE
ARMED
2
FORCES AND VETERANS.

Section 237 of the Immigration and Nationality Act
4
(8 U.S.C. 1227) is amended by adding at the end the fol-
5
lowing:
6
‘‘(e) ALIEN
RELATIVES
OF
MEMBERS
OF
THE
7
ARMED FORCES AND VETERANS.—The provisions of this
8
section shall not apply to an alien who—
9
‘‘(1) is—
10
‘‘(A) the spouse, widow or widower, parent,
11
son or daughter, or sibling of—
12
‘‘(i) a member of the Armed Forces of
13
the United States; or
14
‘‘(ii) a veteran (as that term is de-
15
fined in section 101 of title 38, United
16
States Code); or
17
‘‘(B) eligible for the Gold Star lapel button
18
under section 1126 of title 10, United States
19
Code; and
20
‘‘(2) has not been convicted of—
21
‘‘(A) a felony;
22
‘‘(B) a significant misdemeanor (as such
23
term is defined in section 2 of the Restoring
24
Respect for Immigrant Service in Uniform Act);

or

‘‘(C) three or more misdemeanors that are
1
not significant misdemeanors, each of which oc-
2
curred on a different date, and arose out of sep-
3
arate conduct; and
4
‘‘(3) is not otherwise a threat to national secu-
5
rity or public safety.’’.
