A BILL
To amend title 39, United States Code, to require the United
States Postal Service to receive approval from local gov-
ernments before relocating any post office, and for other
purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Community Post Office
4
Act’’.

SEC. 2. SECTION.

(a) IN GENERAL.—Section 404 of title 39, United
2
States Code, is amended by adding at the end the fol-
3
lowing:
4
‘‘(f) In addition to the requirements of subsection (d),
5
before relocating any post office, the Postal Service—
6
‘‘(1) shall provide a period of not less than 30
7
days for comment from the governments of the town
8
and county, or if there are no such governments, the
9
government of the State, in which the post office is
10
located;
11
‘‘(2) provide to such governments a list, not to
12
be made available to the public, of each proposed re-
13
location site; and
14
‘‘(3) may not relocate such post office without
15
receiving prior written approval from such govern-
16
ments with respect to such relocation and the site
17
proposed for such relocation.’’.

(b) APPLICATION.—The amendment made by sub-
19
section (a) shall apply to any post office proposed for relo-
20
cation on or after the date of the enactment of this Act.
