To require the Secretary of Defense to modify the Certificate
of Release or Discharge from Active Duty (DD Form
214) to include a specific block explicitly identified as
the location in which a member of the Armed Forces
may provide one or more email addresses by which the
member may be contacted.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the ‘‘DD–214 Moderniza-

tion Act’’.

SEC. 2. INCLUSION OF SPECIFIC EMAIL ADDRESS BLOCK

CHARGE FROM ACTIVE DUTY (DD FORM 214).

(a) MODIFICATION REQUIRED.—The Secretary of
4
Defense shall modify the Certificate of Release or Dis-
5
charge from Active Duty (DD Form 214) to include a spe-
6
cific block explicitly identified as the location in which a
7
member of the Armed Forces may provide one or more
8
email addresses by which the member may be contacted
9
after discharge or release from active duty in the Armed
10
Forces.

(b) DEADLINE FOR MODIFICATION.—The Secretary
12
of Defense shall release a revised Certificate of Release
13
or Discharge from Active Duty (DD Form 214), modified
14
as required by subsection (a), not later than one year after
15
the date of the enactment of this Act.
