AN ACT
To amend the Act of June 18, 1934, to reaffirm the author-
ity of the Secretary of the Interior to take land into
trust for Indian Tribes, and for other purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

SECTION 1. AUTHORITY REAFFIRMED.

(a) REAFFIRMATION.—Section 19 of the Act of June
2
18, 1934 (commonly known as the ‘‘Indian Reorganization
3
Act’’; 25 U.S.C. 5129), is amended—
4
(1) in the first sentence—
5
(A) by striking ‘‘The term’’ and inserting
6
‘‘Effective beginning on June 18, 1934, the
7
term’’; and
8
(B) by striking ‘‘any recognized Indian
9
tribe now under Federal jurisdiction’’ and in-
10
serting ‘‘any federally recognized Indian Tribe’’;
11
and
12
(2) by striking the third sentence and inserting
13
the following: ‘‘In said sections, the term ‘Indian
14
tribe’ means any Indian or Alaska Native tribe,
15
band, nation, pueblo, village, or community that the
16
Secretary of the Interior acknowledges to exist as an
17
Indian tribe.’’.

(b) EFFECTIVE DATE.—The amendments made by
19
this section shall take effect as if included in the Act of
20
June 18, 1934 (commonly known as the ‘‘Indian
