Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa- 1 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 2 SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE. 3 This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Distracted Driving 4 Education Act of 2021’’. 5 SEC. 2. DISTRACTED DRIVING EDUCATION GRANT PRO- 6 GRAM. 7 (a) ESTABLISHMENT.—Not later than October 1, 8 2022, the Secretary of Transportation shall establish a 9 distracted driving education grant program. 10 VerDate Sep 11 2014 17:15 Jun 29, 2021 Jkt 019200 PO 00000 Frm 00001 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6201 E:\BILLS\H3677.IH H3677 lotter on DSK11XQN23PROD with BILLS 2 •HR 3677 IH (b) GRANT AUTHORITY.—In carrying out the pro- 1 gram established under subsection (a), the Secretary may 2 make grants, on a competitive basis, to nonprofit organi- 3 zations. 4 (c) ELIGIBLE PROJECTS.—A grant made under sub- 5 section (b) shall be used to provide education to the public 6 regarding the risks of distracted driving, including texting 7 or otherwise using a personal wireless communications de- 8 vice while driving. 9 (d) APPLICATIONS.—To be eligible for a grant made 10 under subsection (b), a nonprofit organization shall sub- 11 mit to the Secretary an application in such form, at such 12 time, and containing such information as the Secretary 13 determines appropriate. 14 (e) AUTHORIZATION OF APPROPRIATIONS.—There is 15 authorized to be appropriated to the Secretary to make 16 grants under subsection (b) $5,000,000 for each of fiscal 17 years 2023 and 2024. 18 Æ VerDate Sep 11 2014 17:15 Jun 29, 2021 Jkt 019200 PO 00000 Frm 00002 Fmt 6652 Sfmt 6301 E:\BILLS\H3677.IH H3677 lotter on DSK11XQN23PROD with BILLS
