the Environmental Protection Agency to publish a maximum contaminant
level goal and promulgate a national primary drinking water regulation
for total per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, and for other purposes.

LONE) introduced the following bill; which was referred to the Committee
on Energy and Commerce
A BILL
To amend the Safe Drinking Water Act to require the Ad-
ministrator of the Environmental Protection Agency to
publish a maximum contaminant level goal and promul-
gate a national primary drinking water regulation for
total per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances, and for other
purposes.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa-

tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.
3
This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Protect Drinking
4
Water from PFAS Act of 2021’’.

SEC. 2. DEADLINE FOR REGULATIONS ON PFAS.

Section 1412(b)(12) of the Safe Drinking Water Act
2
(42 U.S.C. 300g–1(b)(12)) is amended by adding at the
3
end the following:
4
‘‘(C) PER- AND POLYFLUOROALKYL SUB-
5
STANCES.—
6
‘‘(i) IN
GENERAL.—Notwithstanding
7
any other deadline established in this sub-
8
section, not later than 2 years after the
9
date of enactment of this subparagraph,
10
the Administrator shall publish a max-
11
imum contaminant level goal and promul-
12
gate a national primary drinking water
13
regulation
for
total
per-
and
14
polyfluoroalkyl substances.

‘‘(ii)
HEALTH
PROTECTION.—The
16
maximum contaminant level goal and na-
17
tional primary drinking water regulation
18
promulgated under clause (i) shall be pro-
19
tective of the health of subpopulations at
20
greater risk, as described in section
21
1458.’’.
