This Act may be cited as the ‘‘Privacy in Education

Regarding Individuals’ Own Data Act’’ or the ‘‘PERIOD

Act’’.

FOR CERTAIN EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTIONS.

(a) PROHIBITION.—No Federal funds may be made
3
available to any educational institution that requires any
4
student at, or served by, such institution to provide infor-
5
mation with respect to the menstrual cycle of such stu-
6
dent.

(b) DEFINITIONS.—In this section:

(1) EDUCATIONAL
INSTITUTION.—The term
9
‘‘educational institution’’ means a local educational
10
agency, State educational agency, elementary school,
11
secondary school, or institution of higher education.

(2) ESEA TERMS.—The terms ‘‘elementary
13
school’’, ‘‘local educational agency’’, ‘‘secondary
14
school’’, and ‘‘State educational agency’’ have the
15
meanings given the terms in section 8101 of the Ele-
16
mentary and Secondary Education Act of 1965 (20
17
U.S.C. 7801).

(3) INSTITUTION OF HIGHER EDUCATION.—The
19
term ‘‘institution of higher education’’ has the
20
meaning given the term in section 102 of Higher
21
Education Act of 1965 (20 U.S.C. 1002).
