What This Bill Does
This bill removes a requirement from the CARES Act (a law passed during the pandemic) that told landlords they must give tenants notice before evicting them. The bill is called the "Respect State Housing Laws Act."
Who It Affects
Landlords and property owners (called lessors in the bill) who rent housing to tenants.
Key Provisions
• Removes subsection (c) from Section 4024 of the CARES Act, which contained the notice requirement for landlords (Sec. 2)
What Changes
If this bill becomes law, landlords will no longer have to follow the federal notice requirement that was in the CARES Act. States and local areas will control their own eviction notice rules instead of following the federal requirement.
Important Definitions
Lessors: Property owners or landlords who rent property to tenants.
